Round 03 · the paper concepts

2026-10-23, overnight. Three teams carry the owner's paper direction (rounds 01 and 02, every decision in design/DECISIONS.md) into a complete, working concept of the whole site, each in its own folder: v1-claude-team/ (Claude, Fable 5.1 at maximum effort, with its own sub-agents), v2-tag-team/ (Claude and GPT-6 Astra tag-teaming through the terminal, tagteam.sh alternating builder and critic rounds), v3-astra-team/ (Astra at maximum effort with its own sub-agents). The brief every team starts from is BRIEF.md; it quotes the owner's words of the evening below and points at everything built so far.

The ask, in the owner's words (2026-10-23, after midnight)

"Okay, so far you see the direction I'm going. I wanna stick with kinda like the papery feel. And these are other things I want to add. … perhaps we can have the agents, Claude and also Astra through tu, build a couple of concepts based on this paper direction that I've micromanaged thus far. But looking at the other concepts that were fully pretty much baked by the agents, I want them to take over and carry this direction into a full-fledged concept and several versions of it based from the other. … complete based on all my previous direction and input, with from the other sites and stuff like that, but with that paper look and feel. And I want the interface to be usable both ways."

"Another fun feature: if you draw something, then you could hover over it and it'll show maybe like a bot icon and that will let the AI draw on top of your drawing. Somehow you can suggest it, so where the AI will observe what's been drawn on the canvas and make something fun in response. … Could be a bit of an Easter egg, but make it somewhat obvious. … on devices with a cursor it will simply provide a cursor that somehow indicates it can also invite the AI agent to draw something that kind of complements what you drew. So if you drew a circle it could draw two dots and a smile … And then for that there could be an undo button where you undo what the bot did versus what you did."

With a sheet of doodle stickers (design/inspiration/2026-10-23-doodle-stickers-reference.png, a stock image, a reference only): "Maybe we can adopt some of these icons or icon styles like the speech bubbles, maybe for tool tips. I think they look really cool and would fit on the paper look we have, as long as we maintain the same consistency of the marker soaking into the paper with a bit of the pulp showing through no matter what the color. And so maybe we could try a couple of the speech bubble shapes for different kinds of tool tips. And tastefully, not too much."

"Everything should pretty much be arrangeable by the user, like the menu can be dragged around, for example; if you go to the speakers you can drag them around, each speaker's face in this case, and we'll have to decide on the style, so maybe generate some styles now for me of like a paper sketch as if it's drawn with the same marker, and that'll be their avatar until you hover, which can reveal the supplied photo."

"Essentially, this website, everything is on one giant poster. And for example, when you're looking at the agenda, maybe we can make it so that you can draw little annotations to your own agenda as if it's a paper printed one. And you circle the things you want to see. And somehow we should suggest that when you enter that area, it should say feel free to circle what you're interested in, and the AI will automatically keep track of what you circle and it can offer to give you a calendar to send to your device or save it. So we're letting the AI look into how you draw around the site and then offer interactions based on those things, much like drawing a circle, the AI can draw a happy face."

"The idea would be cool is eventually at the end you can kind of zoom out and see the whole website like a site map but really everything laid out graphically, and so when you're going from area to area you're zooming around one giant poster sheet, and eventually once you make it your own you could choose to save it as a PDF, and we could even offer it like a cool service for attendees that choose to do that to mail out their own copy for the event, as a memorable piece of art that we co-created together."

"Let's do three full-fledged directions and use PAL as much as possible, making really nice high-quality decisions, especially at the onset of the project. Start with new threads for each one. One will be run by Claude and sub-agents all maxed out. The second will be a combination tag-teaming via the terminal, cross-chatting through tu between Astra and Fable 5.1 on the max with Ultra Code, and the same for Astra. And a third one with just Astra on max with sub-agents. So by morning I'm hoping to have three concepts that are pretty much ready and functional."

Later, around 04:00: "Maybe the initial prompt after the title and ETS settle could be maybe something like What are you looking for? Or what can I do for you? Maybe something like that. Also for wherever we use the typewriter font, like for bigger blocks like about ETS and stuff like that, we can have it typed out and then please use Eleven Labs API to generate typewriter sounds, including the carriage return for next line and bell ring if it's relevant."

Around 04:30, on the mind: "How to make the AI layer useful, the chat box. Like I suggested, obviously being able to circle stuff in the agenda and then it automatically can generate a personal agenda for the user based on that. But the subtle ways we can encourage that, so when someone goes to the agenda for example, there could be a little hint that gets typed out … or maybe it'll let them then filter to only view the things that they've circled … the first thing is it can suggest asking it what it can do and then it could list more or less what it's able to do on the site, which is quite a lot." "What would be the model we use? Would we use something like Mastra or whatever to add guardrails? So the model is very intelligent, I want that available. But I don't want, for example, another bot to land on the site and abuse our agent … keep it intelligent and open-ended and seeming so it doesn't seem too restrictive, but have safety. So we don't spend a lot of money and we get hit by some bots that interact with it, or people start messing with it if it goes viral." "We should figure out clever ways to encourage people to mess with the site or the AI could suggest things as people access different areas of the site. Subtly suggestive and not necessarily explicitly writing, unless of course someone asks, what am I able to interact with and what are you able to help me with? If they are explicit then we can in turn be relatively explicit, but still playful in responses and a little bit coy." The deliberation (five lenses, three judges, a synthesis) is THE-MIND.md; Astra's independent note is THE-MIND-astra.md.

Also tonight, the operations: "I don't want agents to get stuck if Little Snitch triggers and a modal appears … make sure the Mac is caffeinated so when I lock it agents can keep grinding … shoot me a message as concepts get completed or if I'm needed, via RingCentral, a text." A sentinel runs in a terminal session (~/.ops/ets27-r03/sentinel.py): it answers Little Snitch prompts for the project's own hosts, texts for anything else, texts when a team finishes or stops, and once in the morning.

Around 05:00, on continuity, with the typed block on screen: "especially if we could somewhat randomize it so it's not consistent from users or whenever you visit the site … I would like to figure out the best way to store this information in user cookies or whatever makes the most sense where it becomes like your personal site and how a person can actually save it so they don't lose their experience … without them having to make an account … allow them to maybe reset by section … a little note that appears once they start customizing the site … or perhaps it could just be server side where they're just given a custom URL … a small little sketched disc icon that when they hover can let them know you can continue where you left off next time if you choose to save this link … if they share it, well then someone else can mess with their experience." The coordinator's synthesis is CONTINUITY.md.

Around 05:20: "Anything animated like the text typing out for example, we can have a little replay arrow appear next to it if you hover it, or on mobile maybe it's small and visible at the end of it or in the upper left or right corner, so you could replay that part if you want, but once it's played it won't replay every time you load the page unless you click that. Also while it's typing, if it's longer, maybe we can have a little arrow or suggestive icon that makes it all appear on the fly, for impatient people or people that want to skip all that."

Around 05:50, with a sheet of hand cursors (a reference image, design/inspiration/2026-10-23-cursor-hands-reference.png): "have some agents generate a couple samples based on these cursor hands, but in our sketch style, so it looks like it's drawn with the same marker as everything else, factoring in all the various types of actions we can or will be able to take. It would be funny if the pen item had a little hand around the pen holding it, which changes the drawing based on the direction it's flowing, without overcomplicating it." The samples are in _cursors/.

Also at 05:40, the speakers' avatars: "have Astra and Claude generate some sketches as if drawn with the same felt tip marker, several styles of some of the speakers so I can see how they would look; pick two to three speakers and three to four styles for each, in parallel, so I can make the call before stepping away." The two lanes are in _sketches/ (engine and model), compared on _sketches/index.html.

Around 23:10, on the cursors: "when doing rendering like cursors and sketches we should use also a Google. But for the cursors when grabbing and stuff it should be the hand the palm facing down, not up in a closed fist, which looks like political action. So can you also have Gemini and OpenAI generate some samples? Given that and also I prefer the cuff area of the hand to be open, like it is in this sample" (Astra's mood sheet 2). And on the models for the rest of the night: "let's use our max lanes at 5.5. We have quite a bit of slack there"; Fable polishes later through OpenRouter or after the caps reset.

Versions

Each folder carries its own concept.md, pal-log.md (every opinion asked and what was done with it), HANDOVER.md (what works, what does not, how to run it), and shots/. The teams publish at milestones with design/tools/publish-pages.sh; the live copies are under https://ets27-studio.pages.dev/design/rounds/r03-paper-concepts/.

The owner, 2026-10-23 around 23:50 PDT (cursors and the AI layer)

On the cursor samples: "gemini 1 · That's the the winner but with some adjustments for example I want to do mouse down version so the open hand one for example needs to become like an overhead view of the hand closed as if it's grabbing something so when you go over something you can grab the animation can go back and forth for example between the pointer finger where it shows the pointer finger but when you can click it it kind of animates the down click with two or three frames and so does the and that's where the little stars or like the little dashes come out of for the grab when you can grab something and hover over it it'll do the same intermittently do the grab animation to indicate you can grab from an open hand maybe that should be the default cursor is the open hand it's just a hand moving around so when you go over something you can click on it becomes the index finger pointer and then when you click it curls down a bit and then the little action dashes come out and then with the grabbing it's the open hand becomes like semi-curled or does like the curling intermittently like as if it's grabbing suggesting you can grab I don't know what the whole piece of paper thing is if that's grab I prefer to use the overhand fingers curling to grab it as if you're grabbing an apple off the table an overhead view of that" Then, of the I-beam: "I guess that's a text input thing, maybe. As far as that maybe I guess I'd have to see how it looks. But yeah, adding a bit of animation for as you're clicking down and acting on things makes all the difference. It's devil's in the details as they say."

On the AI layer: "I really wanna I guess maybe after the visual stuff overhaul the AI layers. Perhaps that'll require its own passes after these builds."

The owner, 2026-10-23 02:09 PDT, by text (the mind pass)

"i'll sleep but please workmonnthenintelligence layer if absent from each version - have each tam do it with pal oversights for major decisions" (read: work on the intelligence layer where it is absent in each version; have each team do it, with PAL oversight for major decisions). The plan is MIND-PASS.md.

claude

v1 · the sheet on the desk

One sheet of paper, three lanes wide, laid at its natural size on a desk you only see when the camera lifts: every section of the ETS27 site is a place on the sheet, the camera rolls down a lane and lifts across to another, a zoom-out shows the whole sheet as the site map with nothing hidden, and whatever you draw anywhere stays on the sheet, travels in a link and goes to the printer as your poster. The name in one line: the desk tone around the sheet is what makes a scrolling page read as one sheet lying on a table rather than a site with a background.

v2 · the broadsheet

The site is one sheet of paper the size of a wall, with printed sheets pinned on it in two bands like a broadsheet. You fly over it with a marker in hand; what you draw stays where you drew it, the mind draws back when you invite it, and the wall comes home as a poster.
